Self distrust is the cause of the most of our fail
ures. In the assurance of strength there is strength;
and they are the weakest, however strong, who have
no faith in themselves or their powers.—Bovee.

HUMAN NATURE
You can’t hold a strong position without strong
opposition. You can’t seem right to any if you do
not seem wrong to some. The greater you are, the
greater the penalty of your progress. The farther
you go, the wider your range, the more you increase
the points of contact with which you must reckon,
and therefore, you multiply your battle against mis
conception and slander and malice. In every sphere I
men gibe and sneer—even the peace of the ditch-
digger is threatened by the unemployed laborer whoi
covets his job. So long as you aspire others will I
conspire—so long as you try, others will vie. So
long as your conscience isn’t ashamed to acknowl
edge you as a friend, don’t give a rap for your ene-i
inies.—Exchange.

AMERICAN FOREST WEEK
This week has been set apart as American For
e st week and the movement has the sanction of
President Coolidge and Governor Patterson of Ore
gon. Its purpose is to bring strikingly to the atten
tion of the public the necessity of handling our for
est problems in such manner that our wonderful
timbered areas will not be denuded by fire or com
mercial cutting without adequate provision being
made for reforestation, and also to educate the pub
lic regarding forest fires and the proper conduct to
observe when in forest areas. Co-operation with
those engaged in handling our forest problems will
go a long way toward achieving the ends sought.
