Highways Damaged
Near Corvallis
Corvallis, ore., Nov. 26.—
Heavy rains the past few days
P O R T O R FO R D N E W S
have washed out a large section
of the Corvallis-Waldport high­
way in the Missouri Bend dis­
trict, and It Is estimated It will
require a week to remove the
debris from the highway bridge.
Passengers may he detoured
around the big slide, but no'
freight can be moved over the
road.
Contrary to reports yeeterday.
It was declared today the Cor­
vallis-Newport highway Is still
open to traffic.
Water is receding rapidly, and
conditions in Benton oounty are
expected to return to normal by
tomorrow.
Louis Knapp will be detained
In Gold Beach until Thursday in
turning over the affairs of the
county clerk’s office to County
Clerk Caughell.

Inman mine Monday after spend­
