western coast section of Oregon may well exhibit
great pride in telling the world about the Roosevelt

THEIR MOVEMENT
(Editorial in Oregon Journal)
To prevent the display of unsightly advertising
signs along the Roosevelt highway is the object of a
movement among Oregon coast counties led by the
Port Orford Chamber of Commerce.
Why spend millions of public money on a high
way and destroy the effect by objectionable adver
tising signs? Nature has painted a beautiful picture
along the Oregon ocean-side. There is beauty in ev-
*ry hillside and a nature painting as you round every
curve along the highway.
Before the route is finished, the signs are al
ready beginning to appear. It raises the question ¡1
there is anything on the earth that somebody is not
ready to commercialize. If a way could he devised,
doubtless some shrewd publicity man would commer
cialize the Rible.

BASK INDUSTRY SUFFERS DISCRIMINATION
Mining is one of the two basic industries of the
United States, the other being agriculture. Mining
production for the current year has a valuation
equal to about fifty per cent of that of agriculture.
For every $36 the government expends in 1927 to
foster agriculture it expends $1 to foster mining. On
basis of value of production mining should receive
$18 to every $36 that goes to agriculture. It is high
time mining men wake up and demand that such dis-
crimination cease.
