This gravel bed is probably one of those antedelu- vian rivers, the beds of which have rendered such rich returns in California. A company has been organized at E llensburg, (Vale, Hume, Walker, Crook, Smith and others) to work this mine, which has never yet been thoroughly pros pected. In fact I got my geolog ical information from the Engineer who was up there locating a ditch for tho company. You are per haps acquainted with him aud will know w hether he is reliable. Affectionately thino, S. M. O ku . Three or four weeks ago I went with a pinty to Big Bend, about forty miles above Ellensburg. I have been too long getting my nets aud boats ready for the Spring fishing to write the m atter up soouer, so you will please excuse tho delay. A few hints to my unfortunate readers, may be of service to any of them who may contemplate tbo same tour. The people of P ort Orford first and then of E llensburg, contrib uted money to send the bummer and dead beat Richardson, who bad so long imposed upon the Lan g.ois’s, to Crescent City where be represented his family to be residing. A pparently not appre ciating the compliment, the Cies- eent City folk contributed of their substance to send him back, and back he came.
