C„ Corvallis, Dec. 12. — Among the host of names that have been “officially” used to designate this college, only one is actually "le gal,” says E. E. Wilson, Corvallis attorney and regent of the college for many years. Regent • Wilson says the only law specifying any name is the one of 1885 which creat ed the board of regents. This said boadr "shall be denominated the board of regents ot the state agri cultural college of the state of Ore gon.” Other old timers here including Dr. John Fulton, '92 graduate and । Frederick Berchtold, pioneer facul-1 ty member, agree that in the early I days the common name was "State Agriculture college,” or "S. A. C.” [The term Oregon Agricultural col-1 I lege was seldom or never heard, they j i say, until students dropped "8. A. j I'." and started using O. A. C. In the' first football yell, "composed in 1893. Library files show that various and sundry names were used both | In old laws relating to the college and in catalogs and reports issued since 1885 when the institution was taken over by the state. In addition j "Corvallis State Agricultural col lege.” "State Agricultural College of Oregon,” "Oregon State Agricultur al College," and even "Corvallis and Oregon State Agricultural college.” 1 885 law is still found on college checks. Mr. Wilson pionted out that re gardless of the name used. agrlcul-| tural service to the state has been steadily on the increase and is great er now than ever, even though the great majority of students are at tracted to other courses assigned to the college. —----------- «--------------- Ilie Nation's Potato Crop This year’s potato crop is below average In the states from the Da kotas eastward, but Is above aver age in the western states.
