In order, therefore, to protect persons who use gasoline frequently in a domestic way, »uch as for cleaning clothes, etc., the U. S. Public Health Service asked the manufacturers of ethyl gasoline to dye it in such a way that its color would be distinctive and be a warn ing to persons who wished to purchase straight gasoline for various purposes. The lead composition, ‘‘ethyl" fluid, is sold by the licensee of the holder of the patents, to oil companies which are licensed to mix the fluid with gas oline and to the public. The contracts between the licensee and the oil com panies are said to contain the pro vision that the gasoline must be dyed. Ethyl gasoline, however, is not the only colored gasoline, for there in nothing to prevent other companies from dyeing their products whatever color they may choose. 1, Earl G.
