Basket Picnic in Park to Take the
Place of General Celebration
After some considerable talk among
the citizens of this city, and upon the
request of one or two, the Mayor called
a mass meeting, which was held in the
city hall last Tuesday evening. The
Mayor being out of town, the meeting
was called to order by acting Mayor
Charles Harte, who was later elected
chairman of the meeting.
The meeting was then thrown open
for discussion. Many of those present
expressed themselves as not being in
favor of celebrating here this year.
A motion was made to abandon the idea
of celebrating, which carried, only two
I voting against.
It was then suggested that we hold a
basket picnic in the park on July 3rd.
This met with approval, and a motion
' was made and carried to that effect.
The meeting adjourned to meet again
on the 17th of June, when final arrange
ments will be made. We are in hopes
that each and every one will lend their
assistance in making this day a success.
