The freight train from Portland
Wednesday noon, on the Yam hill
Division of Southern Pacific rail
road was thrown off ths track just
west of tbe West Dayton depot—
7 cars were derailed. The eveniog
passenger train from Portland wa
unable to go farther than West Day
ton, where it remaiued over night,
and returned to Portland next
m orn i ng. The oars thrown off track
were loaded with lumber, and the
track was not cleared of the wreck
age until next day, when trains
were able to pass and ran on sched-
uletime. The cause of tbe accident
it is said, was defeetive and broken
ties
New ties and more ballast
on the track would greatly improve
tbe Yam hill Division, and1 make it
much safer fur the lives of those
»raveling over it.
