We. cannot be too thankful fof the great influence exerted by these gatherings. Col Holt believes in the principle of prohibition, and dares to proclaim that It is right, and not only Col. Holt, for the question is agitated by good peo ple in every section of our country. Col. Holtnas come among us re garding neither dietance not time, n«r pleasure, ease or profit, so the gospel of temperance be preached to all men everywhere. He hopes to leave principles firmly planted in the hearts of alt who throng his meetings. He is here to give an impetus to everything that is good, and help pot a cheek on that which is bad, principally the saloon, which is the taproot of evil. Abont 250 signed the pledge and 22 joined the Union while Col. Holt was here. In the county 1600 have signed the pledge, and, 132 joined the Union. We are glad he came. M rs R B.
