dercurrent of sentiment throughout
Canada favorable to a «»paratiou from
Great Britain and the establishment of
an independent Canadian republic on
thia continent has begun to taka tan­
gible sh-pe. The organiaatio« of in­
dependence dub* baa been in active
progres* during tbe part five ot six
months and a convention has bean
called to meet in thia city in March
next, with tbe objeet of federating all
group* and clubs of the dominion.
Until then tbe chief work will be to
group individuato favorlag tbe inde­
pendence movement throughout Can­
ada; that ia. to effect the co-operation
of all those who favor national inde­
pendence by pacific means.
The Associated Presa correspondent
1* informed that tho movement is gain­
ing ground rapidly in tbe rural dis­
trict*, especially in Port Neuf, Drum­
mond, Granby and the most remote
districts. Two organiser* are trav*l-
