Vendors

The lions and the tigers
In the nearby zoo
Sang me to sleep each lonely night
Sometimes in th e evening
I could hear them roar
As I lay on a park bench
Till th e early morning
Then I crouched like an animal
In the imaginary tall grass
Hidden from travelers’ view
Then I’d suddenly show myself
And long for a dollar bill
Then a hearty meal.
For sometimes we alt
Act like animals
And life is but a zoo.
