Ice cream social
Like the Taj Mahal
By Maddy Brown-Clark
treet Roots vendors enjoyed an ice cream party on Friday
afternoon Aug. 25 catered by What’s the Scoop? on North
Williams Avenue. Forty vendors attended the party, held
in the Street Roots office, taking a break from selling the new
paper on a hot afternoon.
“The party was awesome! I loved the brown butter almond
brittle ice cream. It was delicious! I know most of the vendors
who were there and it was good to have an afternoon to catch
up with them,” said vendor Katie Amberson.
The party was July’s Health, Wellness and Leisure event for
Street Roots vendors. The Health & Wellness program was
designed to provide a monthly event to build community
among Street Roots vendors and to reward them with some
hard-earned time off.
Many thanks to Mary Anne Joyce, long time friend of the
vendors for making the party possible.
S
As I sat on the beach
The setting sun looked
Like the Taj Mahal
Sinking into the sea,
As the moon rose in the sky
It looked like a china plate
On a dark blue tablecloth.
I used my imagination
To get past the things
That worried me like
How to make ends meet
And keep from living
On the street
And hope was resurrected
From the tomb
Within my heart.
