The Sweep
by Daniel Cox
by Maddy Brown-Clark
Like a storm that comes, the hit parade came.
The clamor rose over the Rose City.
The people showed the world their pride.
They invent into history, and is there today.
People swept away
Like garbage in the street
They don’t seem to matter
What they want and what they need.
Cardboard bed in a garbage bin
Two man tents folded and rolled away
Garbage bag shelters
Keeping out the rain
Speaking out for television camera.
For they are nomads
Moving here and there.
Debating For Existence
by Shaggy
If we met an alien race,
Would we fight to protect our space.
Or curse and spit in their face?
Would we use our presumptions,
Combined with assumptions,
To put them back in their place?
If they offered us provisions,
Would we lack a sense of vision,
Maybe make a bad decision?
Would we take for granted,
The gifts they’ve handed,
To rescue us from our condition?
The tragedy that could be
So ugly to our family,
Should be delivered,
To be considered,
By our leaders for eternity.

One Conversation
by Jaison Kirk
One conversation that I need
To have is with my mother.
I need to let her know that her little boy grew up
and what kind of man I am today.
