■ Vendors - the men and
w om en w ho sell the
new spaper - are at the core of
Street R oots’ m ission. Each
year, m ore than 400 individuals
w ork as vendors with Street
Roots. At any given tim e,
throughout the city,
approxim ately 80 vendors are
at work, rain or shine. Vendors
play an active role in the
m anagem ent of Street Roots,
m eeting regularly to discuss
the program and acting as
m em bers of the organization’s
Board of Directors.
■ W ith the m oney m ade
selling the new spaper,
vendors are able to secure
basic needs, independence
and dignity, and w ork tow ard
obtaining bousing. Vendors
buy papers, as m any as they
want, for 25 cents each, and
sell them for $1 each, keeping
all incom e and tips from each
sale.
■ Street Roots is an aw ard
w inning new spaper focusing
on issues of social justice w ith
coverage on a w ide variety of
interests. Street Roots is a
m em ber of the S ociety of
Professional Journalists and
adheres to its standards of
ethics in journalism .
■ D onate to the organization
and give vendors experiencing
hom elessness and poverty a
hand up. It supports not only
the new spaper but our
advocacy efforts on poverty
issues throughout O regon.
■ V olunteer your tim e and/or
expertise and help the
organization grow.
■ Share S treet R oots with
your netw ork and tell people
about the organization.
