Sobriety
Feb. 1 7 -2 3 , 2 0 1 7
Hom eless
by Eileen V izenor
by Rebecca Bacon
Sobriety can mean different things to different people and mindsets,
other than the obvious.
I am homeless and live on the street
You wouldn’t know it from the moment that we m eet
That I don’t have a place or a roof over my head
Or that I haven’t had a shower or slept in a bed
I’d like to think that sobriety
means a stop to hate crimes,
a stop to racism,
a stop to bashing others for their indifferences.
What is life like without a home
It is a curse that haunts you every day wherever you roam
It is a sentence of horror that encompasses your every thought
A movie that repeats where you are idle in the same spot
World peace is a long, long way off
But it will always be my continued dream.
Finding a way back from this journey is a road that is hard to travel
Many who do, are like twisted rope that must unravel
So when you see me on the street
Don’t act like you don’t want to look
It is true I have a story and yes it is a very sad book
The Freezing Wind
by M a dd y B ro w n -C la rk
Don’t give us a label, or a title that comes with a cost
We are all people, humans, that have just gone stray or lost
The freezing wind
Blown about mercilessly.
What can live?
There is one way to change this story and rearrange the plot
It starts with the people, and finding a way needs to be sought
For in our heads we all have the cure
Even though the solution we are still unsure
Winter fog
Hangs low on the mountain.
Darkness falls.
Meanwhile, people are dying on the street
These are the people that we never stopped to greet
We never stopped to say “How do you do?”
Rejecting them from our community and society, too

How do you feel now that you know
That all of us can change in the journey that we go
Just by stopping and giving a simple ‘Hi’
We could of saved a person’s life and caused them not to die
For the people that lost their lives to the street, RIP
