The boy beneath
the purple trees
Letters from a Prophet

The boy
sat on his blue knees
beneath the purple trees
taking in the scenery
While the girl
walked through the valleys
singing in the green breeze
pretty melodies
They met
midnight in the forest
she was a Taurus
he was a castaway
They made love
in a thesaurus
that belonged to Horace
on some ancient day
Then they slipped back
into the sleepy town
in the hazy gown
of a windy morning
And how shall we dream
Of this undreamt place
The sun without its heat
The moon without its simmering light
And what of the scholarly birds,
The eagles soaring without
The brevity of our sight
Or blinded fish swimming
In pools of silence
Without our poles
We have all
Become uncomfortable with this
Murky world.
One day our hearts
Will fail us
Our minds will demand
Prayers
And what shall we do with
Our final bronzed words
Broken in our mouths
Our minds deeply troubled
With things that are
And things that are not
Only to part ways
with cinnamon sweet frowns
in the gentle comedown
of love’s re-mooring

Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (VASH)
Project Based Vouchers
Home Forward is requesting proposals from housing providers to partner with Home Forward
and the local Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) in an application to the U.S. Department
of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for set-aside funding available for Project Based
HUD-VASH Vouchers using a Housing First approach. VASH vouchers come with Section 8
voucher rent assistance as well as ongoing case management and supports for the veteran
provided by the Veterans Affairs (VA). Selected properties will be included in joint applications
for VASH vouchers to be project based pending an award from HUD. The award of Project
Based Vouchers (PBV) to the selected property will be conditional, subject to the successful
award of HUD funding and compliance with all federal requirements including the PBV VASH
regulations, the Fair Housing Act, the Civil Rights Act and the American with Disabilities Act. In
the event HUD does not award Project Based VASH Vouchers for the selected property, Home
Forward may elect to award Project Based VASH Vouchers currently available to Home
Forward to the selected properties.
