Apocalypse: A Poem
by Phillip "Jeremy" Houseknecht
Giant marshmallows cloud the sky,
orbiting the ozone up so high.
Down they burn through the atmosphere,
drowning and boiling the sinners down here.
Who among us would like some more,
Piping-hot cocoa or chocolate s’more?

Crossing Paths
by Lori Lematta
Sometimes I go on ghost walks, pretending I still have my spirited dog prancing ahead of me.
Doing this, one lonely evening, I spotted a woman I knew from my old shelter days; Fran. Her
presence was seismic as she ranted through the neighborhood, shoving her shopping cart
luggage over the cracks in the sidewalk. She fixated on my figure before her, preparing to
explode into her newest dissatisfaction with the world, when she halted with recognition.
Fran’s maimer shifted, and she smiled with her small bps overlapping her dentureless gums. As
I approached, her arms opened wide and I succumbed to a bony hug. We shared a moment of
silent camaraderie followed by three words she spoke to me:
“Where is Susie?”
I told her.
Tears melted her frenzied eyes and she moved quietly onward.
