Harm’s Way
Traditions of the Fourth
by Kenneth T. Nickell
by Doug Mareks
Exquisite illicit; the subject of our every day.
We’ve climbed out of the gutter into Harm’s Way.
Neither money nor substance motivates us.
We’re on the front lines preventing the b u st
Strong in our convictions, and purposeful cause.
Another one dies; no honor no pause.
The enemy swarms, armed with a smile.
Our blood will spill; but after a while.
There’s strength in our number “the infinite 3.”
We know they will kill us, the thought set us free.
Corruption on both sides, in this War on the Block
“Evil is calling; I’ll take the glock.”
Protecting perversion all night and day.
Removed from our suffering; into Harm’s Way.
Monday is the Fourth of July, our country’s Independence Day. The whole day
is dedicated to the idea of Patriotism. How we rose up against Mother England
and King George’s oppression and taxation. We normally celebrate this with
food, with cookouts of steak, hot dogs and hamburgers cooked on the grill, arid
side dishes of potato salad, coleslaw, baked beans and macaroni salad. Macaroni
brings back a movie Yankee Doodle Dandy based loosely on the song of the
same name. There is a line in it “He stuck a feather in his cap and called it
Macaroni.” His hat was a tricorne hat like the Colonials wore. Which brings up
another tradition of re-enactments of the Revolutionary War, which I used to
attend as a youth. Before watching the fireworks in Washington, D.C., so by the
end of the day you were feeling patriotic. Willing to fight all over again to
defend this country and its ideals.
