The Druid of Portland
Meet the Unforgiving

You’ve met him four times now,
autumn grays adorning his Celtic beard.
He is a druid, a transient, a man
unafraid to live free of land (and) lord.
He stopped you to tell a poem.
He asked for no change,
so you gave it to him.
A man content to live
between cobbled stone and park oasis.
The beauty of the land still
lies beneath, he dares for life.
Water carves stone,
wind moves ocean;
the fate in our hands
not ours alone to make.
Thus the nature of prayer,
down on your knees
to the force of the eternal
for a drop of grace,
enough kindness
to soften the places
where bone rubs bone
and meets the unforgiving.
You wondered over his opinion
of the Green Man of Portland.
Curious, he had never seen it.
To show the man of nature art,
often overlooked, walking with him
a long electric tracks and history,
to find the forest in deep city.
Even the lost find refuge in the arms
of the Green Man of Portland, waiting
for spring to spring, the heart of Yule.
Even you may be the Green Man of Portland.
