Occupied
by V ic to r Rivera
Her smile lit the park
Like a hobo hits his wine
As when a junkie hits his vein
I was freed from space and time
I flew through oceans of stars
Although a stone throw away
Turning, swirling, bending light
In search of words to say
Back through the gate of reality
Now spun in vacant rhyme
I strive to occupy something
Other than wanting to swim in her mind
But I want to know what she knows
I’d like to touch her dream
If I could somehow open the window
And let her feel my breeze
But my words don’t bring me confidence
Many say confidence is key
Introduction now postponed
In the meantime I’ll just be me
Her smile lights the park
While the hobos drink their wine
And though I feel I missed the vein
I’m free in space and time
