t has recently Come to lightiinThe public sphere that the National
Security Agency is essentially scooping up the phone calls and emails
of, well, basically all the world’s citizens. It’s for our security, they, say.
Often, people are reluctant to take action against a creeping erosion of
civil liberties until j t hits home. Well, it hit home for Street Roots recently,
when we learned that the heretofore unknown SSNSA, or Super-Secref 1
National Security Agency, an even higher player in this increasingly
labyrinthine state security apparatus, has been gathering copies of Street
Roots in its information trawl-nets as well.

The SSNSA has installed^ computer terminal in a corner of the Street
RootS 'Office, under the aegis o f ‘hational security?” A certain Agent
Smithjonesof that agency purchases a copy of each edition — and asks for
a; receipt — before proceeding to type that issue verbatim into his SSNSA
computer terminal. To what end, Street Roots does not know.

However, we were able to uncover a few answers when Agent
Smithjones' acquiesced to an interview (he’s not allowed to leave his post,
so we basically told him we’d bring him back a bacon maple bar from
Voodoo Doughnut and he said we could have .10 minutes — Ed.).
