Drum Locom otive Totem
By Mike Vance
We sat and chopped
Beat by beat we morphed into
Spirit mediums
My eyes closed
I heard two feathers talking
With his drum.
The rest of us spoke up loud.
Old soldiers and Indian warriors
Fought a vicious battle in a trance
(but not as enemies).
Villages and towns were ransacked.
Billowing black clouds screamed,
Like demon sirens from the smoke stack.
Buffalo and horses stampeded
And bloody scalps rained like confetti
From the night sky.
Then, just before I was decapitated by a cannonball,
I opened my eyes and watched as ghosts
danced above our drums.
H om eless
By Jason B.
My heart beats and I don’t know why
It’s searching for something money cannot buy
I just hope I find it before it gets stale
Or I might have to put it on the market, open for sale
My heart doesn’t know where to go and needs a home
It is a cell phone without a signal, set on roam
It has dreams that it wants to fulfill
It has be hospitalized and stuck with the bill
No matter how many times its been broken, it will heal
No matter how much it wants to go numb, it will feel
Someday I hope it will find that very special place
Even if I can’t eat it all, I just want a taste.
