Joe on Krazy
by John R. Brown
In my homeless life I’ve met
a man with a woman’s voice
and a woman with the voice of a man.
That’s just the luck of the genetic lottery.
I’ve also met a black man who loves vigilantes
and a gay veteran who misses W.
Both seek the succor of Fox News,
the balm of Glenn Beck and Sean Hannity.
Succor and balm indeed!
I’ve heard a fat guy complain about food stamps
(but that was just Rush Limbaugh)
and Sarah Palin decry contraceptives.
Joe the Bartender used to ask Krazy Gugenheim
“How can you argue with that?”
A Microwave for Sylvia
By Andrea Shetzline
Into the not mattering
One-finned goldfish
Flail sidewise into yet
Another belle jour.
In primitive Zen
My disgraceful hum of
Breath continues
What for, what for.
This version recurs
Sans cheerful final stanzas
Its chest stuffed full
With rain clouds.
