By A J Coyne
Our small village lost one o f its great matriarchs
this month. Judy Osburn was an irreplaceable force
in this community and as the town remembered and
mourned together I was reminded o f how much one
person can do. Judy taught us all to put children
where they belong...first. By example she taught
us how to live life w ith independence, class and
strength. Through her death she also reminded me
why 1 live in Cannon Beach, it is so easy to get
caught up in liv in g and forget to slow down and
appreciate what you are surrounded by. So many in
our village came together in this time o f tragedy,
during the days that followed Judy's passing I
couldn’t walk a block without finding people
huddled together sharing memories, we all fe lt the
loss in one way or another and even those who did
not know Judy w ell were affected. We all were
able to laugh, cry and connect w ith one another in
this great loss. She was an amazing woman and we
should all remember what she taught us in life and
in death. We are so lucky to live here and to have
each other to share in all the beauty that surrounds
us. We should invest ourselves in the people and
more importantly children that make up our
community.
Thanks Judy fo r reminding me o f what is
important.

It is o f interest to note that while some dolphins are reported to have learned
English — op to fifty words used in correct context — no human being has
been reported to have learned dolphinese.
