"Oh man, I didn't know we played for 8 hours. Yikes, where are we and what's that?" asked Zack. "It looks like a mushroom except it has eyes and it moves," said Austin. "You're all green," said Zack. "You're all red and you look like Mario," said Austin. "You look like Luigi. If you look like Luigi and I look like Mario then we must be in Nin. .." shouted Zack. "Wait, wait, wait, that mushroom thing is getting closer!" Austin said. "That's what I was about to say but to jum p on it," said Zack excitedly. "OK 1, 2 ,3 , jump! Wait, what's that red block thing?" asked Austin. "I don't know but let's jum p in the mushroom first. 1, 2, 3, gotcha. Now what was that red block thing that you were talking about and where is it?" asked Zack. "It's over there," said Austin. "OK, let's go see what it is. Let's hit it," said Zack. "Cool wing cap," said Austin. "Oh yah, I remember we are supposed to go to the top of the hill, where the big bomb is," said Zack. "OK so let's go," said Austin. "Wait, we have to talk to him," said Zack. "I guess we don't. OK so we pick him up by the back and throw him," said Zack. "OK here we are, let's fight big bomb," said Austin. "OK you go first," said Zack. "No way. Let's both go. He'll be too heavy for one o f us," said Austin. "Yah that's fine with me. Let's grab h im .. . 1,2, 3, get him !" said Zack. "Wow we better not play 64 that long any more," said Austin. "Why not, we were in there for no time at all?" said Zack. "OK, you can but I don't want to." The End Mina Beckman 7 yrs. old Tolovana Park Gcppctto’s BEAVERS Most beavers live in North America. Beavers are known for their skill at cutting down trees with their strong front teeth. They eat the bark and use the branches to build dams and lodges. Their dams make great habitat for the fish. Their homes are built of sticks or more firmly and solidly of mud. The room inside may measure 8 feet wide and up to 3 feet tall. A 1,000 foot beaver dam was found in Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado. At least two families live in a lodge. Beavers' favorite bark includes willow, maple, alder, and aspen trees. Beavers give birth to one litter of kits per year, usually between April and July. The litter usually contains 4 kits, but up to 8 are possible. The younger siblings stay with their parents for 2 years helping with the lodge and gathering food. An adult beaver weighs 35 pounds, is about 30 inches long, and 12 inches tall. Beavers may live 20 years or more. Beavers have waterproof brown fur and black webbed feet. Their powerful hind legs also increase their swimming ability. Beavers can swim under water for 1/2 mile and can hold their breath for 15 minutes. Beavers can close their noses and ears while swimming under water. They have a clear eyelid to protect their eyes from the water and debris. Hunters in the United States and Canada trap over 500,000 beavers a year. Beavers are almost extinct in Europe. By Taylor Mersereau, 10 yrs. old, Arch Cape ® * * Toy Shoppe 200 N.
