C hange is one o f the few things that is constant in
life and can often be bittersweet. 1 ha, is how 1 feel
about this last issue o f the Upper Left Edge. Cher the
last five years this publication has given many o f us
a place to voice different and differing opinions. I hc
columns have been informative, thought provoking,
amusing and sometimes exasperating. A ll the things
a newspaper should be. 1 hank you B illy and the cast
o f thousands for giving us a forum to educate, ran,,
rave, laugh and create
As a final thought 1 would like to challenge each o f
you to take a look at your efforts to conserve our
environment and community w hile sustaining our
quality o f life. Many people who come to live in
Cannon Beach are wooed by the romance o f liv in g in
one o f the most beautiful spots in the North West
Most come w ith a renewed v igor to retain that
beautv And as w ith everything . after tim e we
become a bit complacent We ge, busy w ith our
hectic attempts at making a livin g and ju g g lin g
everyday life. We lose our passion. So whether you
start recycling more, using less toxic products, begin
backyard composting or volunteer, my challenge is
to just do it. It may sound cliché, but we can make a
difference on a local le v e l. 1 believe we have a
responsibility to do so There are many ways you can
help reduce the use o f natural resources, preserve the
ecosy stem or have a v oice in the gov ernmental
decisions that steer us. Eight for consumer protection
standards, refuse to buy products that are ov er
packaged, help repair a hiking tra il or leave your car
a, home and walk to town It doesn't matter what you
do. you'll feel better and it w ill help keep Cannon
Beach a special place

The Miracle Mini-Pump is a timely
deuice designed to eliminate
standing w ater quickly and
efficiently.
BUAMt JOHNSOM
RtAL LUTATI
Gadget uses your faucet to
pump a lu ay w ater woes
In these climatically woebegone parts, the
adage “when it rains, it pours” dissolves into
“when it rains, it floods” with alarming
frequency.
If the next deluge invades your basement,
the Miracle Mini-Pump can help relocate
unwanted water to a more appropriate site
The product can also be used in flooded
yards, pools or other areas drowning under
standing water It may even save a drowning
boat at a dock.
When attached to a pair of ordinary garden
hoses and activated by die water pressure
generated by the household tap, the nuraele
pump can dispose of more than 200 gallons
of w ater per hour Water can be redirected
uphill or downhill, no electricity is needed
Pump will not rust.
