C ity Council voted to accept the new program at their September meeting based on the results o f this tria l run. So the folks down at recycle are now prepared to formally collect paper. The criteria for acceptance w ill be that the categories are presorted, dry and non-bundled. Non- Bundled means that the paper should be collected loose and placed in a brown paper bag. Paper may be dropped o ff during supervised hours at the recycling depot Due to the high likelihood that paper w ill fly away in the elements it can not be accepted when the depot is closed The depot is located on East Second Street just past the Don Thompson Mem orial. Paper, according to the Department o f Energy , constitutes 40.2% o f the mass in U.S. landfills. This includes newspaper and m ixed paper Oregon is one o f the states w ith the low est level o f paper waste in landfills. We are throw ing paper into lan dfills at a volume o f 29.2% according to the DEQ.
