Come join us for dinner near the pounding surf at Laneda & Carmel in Manzanita This month I have decided to do an article on the multi-Grammy, multi-American Music Award winners Boyz II Men. They are an A Cappello group from Philadelphia whose hits such as "On Bended Knee” and "I’ll Make Love to You", have taken them to the top. Their successes started when Michael Bivins from the group Bell-Bil-Devoe was asked to hear a new group sing. Michael was also there to represent Motown Records. Boyz II Men sang the song "Mowtownphilly" to Michael and sure enough he liked it. They were signed by Motown Records and started production on their album "Cooleyhighharmony" (Koole Hi Harmony). It included a number of hits, like, "So hard to say Goodbye", "Mowtownphilly", and "Uhh Ahh." This album skyrocketed their career to Grammy height. One year later they had a big hit on the "Boomerang" soundtrack entitled, "End of the Road." This song was perhaps their biggest ever, still being listened to in 1995. In 1993 they had another hit, "Still of the Night". This was a cover version of a song from the 50's. This song got a lot of air time from radio stations around the world. In 1994 they came out with another block buster album entitled "II." This album had hit after hit on it. The album had thirteen songs like most others but it was not like other albums. Out of the thirteen songs seven of them have a single and a video. On the song charts you will most likely see songs like "I'll make love to You," "On bended Knee," "Thank You," "All Around the World," "Yesterday," "When the Water Runs Dry," and "50 Candles." All of these songs are from their new album. With all of their awards and singles I had to see them In Concert, and just my luck; they were playing in Portland. The stage was all set for the concert; the band was out there and ready. All of a sudden they ran out to perform. One of their trademarks is all wearing the same outfit, and sure enough, they were wearing purple sports coats, white shirts, black pants and purple patent-leather shoes. They have synchronized dance steps, and peppy music keeps the show going. Boyz II Men are one of the biggest groups in the world right now, and for a good reason, they are going to stay there. 503/ 368-5593 FEATURING KID SIEGEL.
