Robin Stellin Does! 2 j 4 This month I decided to do a column on something that people really don’t understand. Rap music. Rap music really hasn't been fairly judged. People judge it by the rapper's image, not Dy the actual music. Rap music is composed of bass beats, extreme melodies, and outgoing lyrics. Early rap music can be traced to the 70's with funk music. Many of today's hot rappers credit their success to George Clinton and the P-Funk All Stars. George Clinton had a unique style of music that had the right amount of spark to start a revolution. Later in the 80's a group called the Sugar Hill Gang made the first music labelled Rap. They had a one of a kind street lyricism that struck a nerve in America's youth. Later in the 80's a group of DJs became known as the Wrecking Crew, later known as the World Class Wrecking Crew. The WCWC was made up of Grandmaster Lonz, DJ Yella, Cli n Tel, and Dr. Dre. This group was a skyrocket for Rap music. Ditching out hits after hits, In 1987 NWA was formed Dy Dr. Dre, DJ Yella, M.C. Ren, ICE Cube, Eazy E, Lay-law, and The D.O.C. They broke all the boundaries in popular music. Being banned from the radio they had no way to make their music known, except for the publicity about them getting banned from all radio stations. They were in the spotlight of the music industry with their explicit lyrics and booming bass. N.W.A. had a hit-packed debut album straight out of Compton with many hits including the title song ‘‘Straight out of Compton". Today in 1995 three of the seven people from N.W.A. are the center pieces of Rap music. Dr. Dre made a double platinum album, "In The Chronic", featuring D.O.C., Snoop Doggy Dogg, the Dogg Pound and The Lady of Rage. He also has started his own record company that produces some of the top names in Rap, such as Snoop Doggy Dogg, The Dogg Pound, and his half brother Warren G. Dr. Dre also directed and produced a movie known as "Murder was the Case", and the soundtrack featured the remix of the title song by Snoop Doggy Dogg. Dre and ICE Cube made a song entitled "Natural Born Killers". ICE Cube has made several solo albums such as "The Predator", "America's Most Wanted", and "Lethal Injection". Eazy E has been extremely successful in rapping and producing. He produces Bone Thugs In Harmony, and has made two or three albums. xuanonsnoDni JIM WEATHERS 2 Tmth Strut ^A storia, O ra a n 9 7 '° 3 V MhutOy fanyh AturiÜU) IO - y .
