On November 3th members of the Energy
Committee and City Manager John Williams
volunteered their day to delamp city hall light
futures and replace existing ballasts and bulbs
with more energy efficient equipment Energy
Committee member Jerome Arnold spearheaded the
protect which was based on an energy
consumption audit conducted in 1989 and updated
in 1993 The estimated savings per year to the city
in reduction of energy consumption w ill be
$766 00 By utilizing volunteer labor the city saved
an additional $720 00 The payback period for the
new iutu res is 3 years This is another great
instance of our Community and City working
together to Lead By Example
The Energy Committee is accepting applications
for two 3 year terms and one 1 year term
Application packets are available at City Hall The
questions you should be asking are Why should I
volunteer to he on this committee who are they,
and what do they dor
In 1991 the Energy Commitee was established as
a standing working committee w ithin the
mumciple government Its predecessor The
Energy Conservation Task Force successfully
organized the community for two years to
accomplish numerous conservation protects
Cannon Beach is one of the few cities in Oregon to
designate a committee to work on conservation
issues The seven member committee identified the
following 3 goals for the 1994 93 year
1 Source Reduction
2 Cannon Beach Shuttle
3 Recycling 6» Conservation Education
4 City Hall lead By Example Program
3 Weatherization
