friend Michael Marsh showed me the
First amendment He flipped a power
switch on a 1260 Multilith press,
ambled over to look at the result,
made a slight adjustment, then
flashed a nuscheveous grin, eyebrows
bouncing His was the smile of a
monk who knows the secrets, and that
if there are no secrets, the truth will
prevail
Since the days of the Oracle, the
Berkley barb, the Realist, and, yes. the
Willamette bridge. I have collated,
poeticised, pontificated, and otherwise
raked muck from time to time Never
have 1 seen an unfunded little
publication grow so nicely, look so
good, t»e such a pleasure to read, or
appeal to such a broad spectrum as
the tipper Left Edge
When your esteem ed editor
launched the Edge, it was a paper
airplane It was music and a sense of
involvement in the community It
was fun, and it grew
Owing its spark and commitment
to billy Hults and its visual magnetism
to Sally Lackaff, the Edge has drawn
fine writers and artists and will
continue to do so This paper is built
by hand and heart each month, and
the vitality shows
If our differences create conflict,
we can describe them clearly and
without anger Kindness is attractive,
and, as the Dalai Lama says, anger is
the most destructive human power
So, it is a joy to see this paper address
weighty issues without resorting to
verbal violence This concern is born
of affection, not a desire to control
