Dear Reverend
I read w ith much disgust the recent letters
in your newspaper responding to Sahhalie
I find th e ir . as well as y o u r, responses to
our project and the City of Seaside s decision
very ironic (o r is it h ypo critica l) One of
your emotionally distraught readers is upset
because they don't know who Czrrzrte Trust is
Yet their scr ibble at the end of the ir letter
hardly lets us k now who wrote this dr ibble
( The rest of their dribble is » g ro s s ly
inaccurate and fu ll of such hatred it s not
worth debating) It a l» appears that the
balance of the letter s in your paper are signed
w ith a firs t name only Who are these people
and what do they do9 Again your subscribers
prove that what s good for the goose is not
necessary good for the gander
In your editorial you grossly misrepresent
the public review process Mow dare you claim
the the City of Seaside re fu » d to vote in public
To the contrary, they not only voted in public,
they conducted over 18 hours of public
hearings in which the same testimony was
hear d ad nauseum If you were a credible
journalist I might gel very upset Believe it or
not w e re the type of development teem you
should applaud, but ask mg you to think
rationally would be fru itle ss
Ahh
and fin a lly the d irty subject of
■profit" It seems that anyone w ith motives
other than your own is despicable when it
comes to mak mg money Yet, you find it quite
reasonable to ask Santa for bigger paychecks, a
facsimile machine ( by the way I have a very
good used one - cheap), p rin te r and a copy
machine O h.andareadershipof7.O O O -
ostensibly » y o u can make more money Yet
wouldn't a larger readership and a 20 page rag
use more trees9 Recycled paper only goes »
ta r, you know An old
VW9 Now there is a responsible approach to
gas emissions Running a piece of junk around
town - - w ith your only motive being to "look“
the part
Once again the purveyors of a ll that is good
in the wor Id, the self appointed defenders of the
universe have shown th e ir true colors A
worthy cause is above reproach and above the
law If one's cause, however, is "deemed" evil
then you had best adhere to the law or just die
By the way. why would you break the law by
engaging a "would- be archaeologist" to
trespass and dig on my client s property after a
new stele law p ro h ib its such a c tiv ity ? Shame

_________
I attended the Seaside Planning Commission
Meeting on Tuesday, January 4. 1994 One of
the ajenda items was a petition submitted by
Oregon Natural Resources Council This was a
request asking the Planning Commission to
initiate a zone change at the high salt marsh
located on Cascade Trust property slated for
the, » c a lle d , Sahhalie Condominiums
Presently Ihe zoning for this important salt
marsh is illegally designated as A - 3 T h is is a
zone designation indicating a freshwater coastal
lake To date, the City of Seaside has not been
able to iustantidte th b e rrun eu us zoning w ith
proper documentation, but for development
purposes, continues to process this most
significant salt marsh on the lower Necanium
under false guide lines
The 0 N R C petition presented to the Seaside
Planning Commission could have started the
process for designating the tid a lly influenced
marsh as A - 1 . Natural Aquatic, as i, deserves
This proposal was quickly swept to yet another
corner, w ith the Commissioners deciding to
consider zone changes at their upcoming
wetlands review and workshop Another
missed opportunity in the name of politics as
usual
I urged the Planning Commission to consider
the possible lia b ility issues of the Cascade
development proceeding w ith bridge building,
under the false guide lines of a freshwater
marsh Building standards should conform to
this fact There seemed to be little concern
forthcoming from the Seaside Planning
Commission, but whet can we expect9
The record stands for itself Seaside w ill
on you reverend Certainly a man of the cloth
knows the difference between rig h t and wrong
Unless the cloth is made of bur lap
And please don't test your patience in try in g
ngt to despise me I could re a lly care less I
am s o rry you find life » miserable that all you
can do Is look for the bad in the world
Sincerely,
Stephen wasserberger
Steve,
We don t think you are a bad guy, you are an
architect, which is sort of like an a rtis t
("Frozen Music" and all tha t), we just think
you guys picked the wrong place for your
really cool project And though we do not doubt
your personal in te g rity , we have grave doubts
about your playmates at Cascade Trust and
Seaside City Hall What about answers, Steve
- - Who do you work fo r9 Why are you tak mg
this » p e rs o n a lty ? Why this piece of land ?
W h a td o e s th e A irp o rth a v e to d o w ith it9 is

questions w ill be asked u n til we find out the
whole s to ry , » we look forward to hear ing
