Pushed from behind I rise up The bus

I see a difference between protecting
and being a protectionist The first
implies to me a responsible
stewardship maintaining standards
appropriate for the livability of our
community The second has tones of
elitism litera lly saying This is ours
and you re not welcome or more
specifically Your kind is not
welcome
This section of Oregon s beach is
among il not the most beautiful Ils
id v llic It s c o m p e llin g I l s a slate
treasure I enjoy livin g here and
welcome others to enjoy it
On President s day weekend when it
took 15 • » ' • • • minutes to travel one
and one half miles this welcoming
sprint was intensely challenged But at
the heart of it We are a desired
destination Cannon Beach w ill
continue to he a sought out spot for
holidays and day visits visitors keep
local businesses alive all year long The
door isn ( going to close and a mystical
driver yell Easton1
So a challenge before me is to find a
cooperative way to deal with
these
masses A way both personally and
through our etty planning processes
I suppose it boils down to simple
courtesy When visitors act
inappropriately I can deal with that in
the same manner as I would deal with
anyone acting discourteously 1 m
going to try and remember that these
people these guests are individuals
not members of some perverted club
dedicated to ru in in g my day or trashing
the streets All in all most are here to
enioy the very qualities which drew me
here years ago
I try to remember and in this sense
i knowledge that I am not the Ixst
one on the bus
