THE TORCH OF REASON, SILVERTON, OREGON, AUGUST 31, 1899. 8 (X X X X X X K X X > < > 0 < K X > < K > 0 < X X X X > 0 N E W S AND NOTES. oooooo Who wants to dispose of a nice little pony? Answer at the Torch of Reason Office. Beautiful weather again, and the building of our Freethought school goes merrily on. There is another large delegation of Wisconsonites which will arrive in Silverton soon. Rain has delayed our work dur ing the past week but now the weather is delightful, and fifteen men make the Liberal University building grow. Freethinkers desiring to hold stock in the Liberal University Cor poration should send in their names at once, before the stock books are closed. Sign the blank on this page and send as directed. The editor’s mother and two sis ters, with their families, have ar rived in Silverton from Wisconsin since our last issue, and are well pleased with our country, and will make Silverton their home. Liberal Hall’s seating capacity ought to be crowded on Sunday ev ening, October 1, when Mr. Wake man delivers his first address to the students of the Liberal Univer sity and the citizens of Silverton. Miss Alice Davenport, sister of the cartoonist, Homer Davenport, has been employed as teacher of stenography and typewriting in the Liberal University. She is now busily engaged in our private office. OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO We hope to have the roof on the University building before the next issue of the Torch reaches its read ers. Just as we go to press we learn of the wedding <>f the Freethought poetess, Miss Grace E. Gruber, of Brockton, Mass., to Mr. A. W. Dell- quest, formerly of El Paso, Texas. After a year or so spent in travel ing at home and abroad, Mr. and Mrs. Dellquest will make their home in Norfolk, Va. The Torch of Rea son extends hearty congratulations and predicts a prosperous and happy life for the two contracting parties.
