Prof. Torvald Kohl, of the Odder
Observatory, Denmark, reports that
when the huge sunspot of Septem
ber last was crossing the solar
meridian magnificent auroral lights
flashed across the heavens, and the
electric bells in the great telegraph
station at Fredericia rang without
any visible cause. The telegraphic
service in Denmark was disturbed
for hours during the auroral dis
play. Prof. Kohl thinks that the
agency of the sun in producing the
phenomena was evident. Similar
exhibitions of “ wireless telegraphy”
between the sun and the earth
have been noted in the past.

It has been long known, says a
Cheyenne dispatch, that Wyoming
was the graveyard of the largest
animals which have at any time
inhabited the earth. Professor W.
H. Reid, of the department of geo
logy of the state university, while
exploiting the fossil fields of Albany
county, about 90 miles northwest
of Laramie, during last August,
discovered the fossil skeleton of the
largest animal yet found in the
world. The monster was a dweller
in the jurassic age, known to scien
tists as a dinosaur, measuring near
ly 130 feet in length, estimated to
have been 30 feet in height at the
hips and 25 feet at the shoulders,
its petrified skeleton weighing more
than 40,000 pounds. The only
known fossil which approximates
this dinosaur in size is 'the cele
brated brontosaur in the Yale Col
lege museum, discovered some years
ago in AV yoming by Professor O.
C. Marsh. This monster unearthed
by Professor Marsh is said to have
f,een <0 feet in length, the new dis
covery by Professor Reid eclipsing
n by GO feet in length. This recent
discovery is said to put the rep
