U niversity ha« a new We laughed till we cried at the Y. P. S. S. C. last F riday evening. Last Sunday evening one of the good C hristian sisters in Silverton was heard to say to her saintly husband as they were walking home after church, “ We d o n ’t seem to have as large congregations as we used to.” The congregations of the gods will be still sm aller in the sweet bv and bv, dear sister. Are we to finish our U niversity building this year, do you ask ? The following persons have sent T h at depends on you. in money this week to help along The students and teachers of the the work of the Liberal U niversity: U niversity enjoy their vocal music C. E. One of our new students says he has learned more io his few weeks attendance at the U niversity than be did in a whole y ear’s work in other schools, and he is a real stu dent. We are in receipt of “ Live Ques tions”, by J. P. Altgeld. This is a substantial cloth-bound book, con taining 1U0U pages. It is sent post paid for $2.50. See notice else where. We have two em blem s of super stition in our m useum : an owl and a bat. Both were nicely m ounted by F ath er Page. The bat was cap tured by Lym an Leonard and do nated to the U niversity. “ The H eart of a H ero,” played by home talent in Silverton S a tu r day evening, was very successful, and although the play was not a heavy one, the acting was good and the audience was well pleased. T hirty million men, women and children have been put to death in order to establish C hristianity, and yet it is far from being established. God is love? Is a white C hrist a perfect savior for negroes, In d ian s and C hina men? Why couldn’t God have a black, a red and a yellow7 son from colored virgins? The serm on on the m ount was not delivered by Jesus C hrist, but was, according to high scholastic authority, copied from old Hebrew writings. Many think Jesus a fic tion. Some think th a t to take away th e fear of hell will make people bad. The tru th is ju st the opposite, for a sense of the great injustice of a hell is accountable for much of the sin in the world today. The following is nearly as badly mixed up as the genealogy of Jesus C hrist: •‘A tall girl nam ed S hort long loved a certain Mr. L ittle, while Little, little thinking of Short, lov ed a little lassie nam ed Long. To m ake a long story short, Little pro posed to Long, and S hort longed to be even with L ittle’s shortcom ings. So Short, m eeting Long, threatened to m arry Little before long, which caused Little in short to m arry Long. Did Short love L ittle less because L ittle loved Long?” LOCALS.
