The next stopping place was at W hiteson, where I called on Mr. Rem ington, wno very kindly d> - nated live dollar- for the Universi ty. My trip from here must be brief ly told, hut I must not forget to m ention the nice visit with Mr. Miller and fam ily, near Dayton. They have the most beautiful loca tion for a home I ever saw. It is on the top of a m ountain, and from the front y ard I could look down on the whole W illam ette val ley. W ith a good glass, one could see Silverton, twety-five miles dis tan t, in the foothills of the Cas cades. T hat evening found us in Newberg, a t the home of J. C. Por ter. 'The next day I visited Mr. and Mrs. Priestley at th eir country home and had a very pleasant time, Mr. Priestley returning wi Ji me to Newberg, the home of the Quakers, where we secured several subscrib ers. On the wav to P ortland we visited at B utteville, Stafford and Oregon City, meeting friends too num erous to m ention. The Bailey fam ily, in P ortland, gave us the us ual welcome, and S atu rd ay evening found us at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Plim pton, in the suburbs of the city. E arly Sunday morning we started for Silverton, a distance of fifty miles. Very little of im portance occurred, and we arrived home in good season and found ev eryone well. In a few days we will sally forth again, and then the fur will fly. Look out for us,for we are coming your way, and when you see us coming you will know what it means.
