I am glad to be able to contribute this w ithout ever expecting a per sonal benefit resulting from it to gestion, and that there is nothing of a su p ern atu ral character about them ;— T h at any considerable num ber of persons should believe these and sim ilar phenomena to la? owing to the intervention of what they arc pieased to call “ sp irits” is an indi- cation of a want of intelligence on their part which in this enlightened age is tru ly deplorable.— In v esti gator. me at this distance. I wish many others could see it the same way and contribute what they can. The beginning appears sm all b u t it promises much. Secularism has not grown more because its principles have not been understood by the masses. It has had but meagre presentation and has been much abused and m isrepresented from every m onu m ent of superstition. Now we have an op p o rtu n ity to organize our selves around an institution th at (if we m ake it a good one) will give us standing and show th e superior ity of our principles over those of our enemies. It is not ju s t for us to shirk our duty, and as soon as we loosen th e chains of supersti tion from our intellects through some self-sacrificing liberals, to feel self-content and refuse to support th a t which would break the chains from others. Each one of us could at least give as much as what would be exacted from us for the propagation of orthodoxy. W ith the best of hopes for the future, I am , Sincerely yours. Dakota. A.
