Astronom y does not show th a t the
world is lost. It moves regularly
in its orbit, turns faithfully on its
axis. Physical geography does not

tions, the earth is a beautiful hall;
and the Hebrew’ psalm ists bursts
forth into praise, as they contem ­
plated its wonders an d glories.
Science today is perpetually reveal­
ing them. Nor does history or re­
ligion show’ that m an is lost now’, or

trary , the area of civilization has
gradually been extended over the
