Jacqueline Van Ness
Jacqueline Stencil
William Wilkins
Jacqueline Van Ness, 84, passed away
on the morning of Dec. 22, 2020, at Mid-
Columbia Medical Center in The Dalles, Ore.
Born in The Dalles on Feb. 12, 1936, Jackie
was a lifelong resident. She loved being with
family and spending time at family gather-
ings, bowling at Westgate Lanes, and most
recently taking trips to the Oregon coast with
her sister Colleen and her niece Cathy.
Jackie was a devoted care provider for
her family members. She enjoyed spending
time with her friends, regularly meeting
several of her school classmates for lunch.
Jackie enjoyed working in her yard and being
outside. She was a longtime member of the
Evangelical Church in The Dalles. Jackie had
a diverse working career, working her way

up to managing a local restaurant and later a
Van Ness
shoe store, where she received many awards
for her accomplishments and management skills.
The daughter of Olin and Veva Caldwell, Jackie was the
third born of four children. She was preceded in death by
her husband of 29 years, Paul Van Ness; her older brother,
Richard “Dick” Caldwell; and her daughter Rhonda Ferrell
Brown. Jackie is survived by her son, Jim Ferrell, his wife Janis,
granddaughter Celeste Ferrell Worrell and husband Riley
Worrell; grandson Brian Brown and great-grandsons Felix
and Otis Brown; stepchildren Laurie Alberts, Karla Reeds,
Kurt, Jeff, and Chris Van Ness; sister Colleen Fredrickson, her
children Cathy Fredrickson, Janet Fredrickson-Bauer, Richard
“Dick” Fredrickson, and his wife Monika; brother Bob
Caldwell, wife Mary and their children, Vincent Caldwell,
his wife Rosie, Lynette Caldwell Leisure, and Scott and John
Kohltfarber.
At Jackie’s request, there will be no funeral. A private
graveside service will be held at the IOOF cemetery in The
Dalles on June 11.
Jacqueline D. Stencil (Drown) was born in
Boise, Idaho. On Aug. 5, 1981. She was called
home by her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at
age 39 in Sneads Ferry, N.C., on Jan. 22, 2021.
Jacqueline grew up in White Salmon,
Wash., and graduated from Columbia High
School. Jacqueline got pregnant in high
school, where she chose life and adopted out

Stencil
Jacqueline worked at Riverview Bank, Bank
of America in The Dalles, Ore., and Gardner Funeral Home.
Jacqueline served in the Marine Corps., Nov. 14, 2007 to Aug.
15, 2011. She served her country in the United States as a
Substance Abuse Control Officer and received her Sergeant
stripes. She continued her education at the American Military
University in Associate of Applied Science and Health
Sciences and her Bachelor of Arts in Security Management
with Honors, and was accepted into the National Honor
Society.
She is survived by her parents, Larry and Toni Stencil; birth
father, Michael Clark; children, Amanda, Caitlyn, Noah and
Abraham; her sisters, Jessica, Miranda and Brianna; four
nieces, Tiffany, Brittany, Lilly and Emily; one great-nephew,
Benjamin; and her first grandson, Bodhi.
A celebration of life was held at the Husum Church on the
first day of spring, March 20, 2021. We want to thank Gardner
Funeral Home for their excellent help with setting up her vid-
eo, and our church family for all their help, love and support
during this time. We would also like to thank all our family
and friends for the flowers and cards. We truly felt the love of
our community.
William F. Wilkins, founding partner and
CEO of Wilkins, Kaiser, Olsen Inc., passed
away peacefully at home on June 3, 2021,
surrounded by family. Bill was born on Aug.
20, 1935, in Goldendale, Wash., to Theodore
V. and Vera M. Wilkins. Bill grew up in
Goldendale and after high school, attended
Washington State University in Pullman,

Wash. Bill moved to Stevenson, Wash., in
Wilkins
1962, where he and his business partners had
formed WKO and started a high lead logging
company which expanded to a veneer mill and multiple
sawmills.
Bill is survived by his wife of 51 years, Dolly, of Stevenson;
children Brad and Monica, Debbie and Keith, and Bill and
Sue of Carson, Wash., Shelli and Smitty of Vancouver, Wash.,
Carrie and Pete of Corvallis, Ore., Scott of Goldendale, Juanita
and Darren of Stevenson, and Lori and Troy of Camas, Wash.;
sister Joan of The Dalles, Ore.; and numerous grandchildren,
great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and
Vera, infant daughter Connie, infant grandson Kevin and
infant brother Teddy.
Bill loved his family and his business. He enjoyed many
outdoor activities including hunting and fishing. Bill was an
avid golfer. He and Dolly spent many years touring through
various states enjoying motor coaching, golf and friends.
Bill will be laid to rest on Wednesday, June 9 at 11 a.m. at
the Stevenson Cemetery on Highway 14, Stevenson.

Lynnora O'Meara
Lynnora "Nora" O'Meara passed away at
her home in The Dalles, Ore., on May 24,
2021, from natural causes. She was 72 years
old. Nora was born in Duarte, Calif., in
1948 and raised in The Dalles. She graduat-
ed from Wahtonka High School in 1966.
Nora held managerial positions at sever-
al local restaurants throughout her career,

including at Dave's Hometown Pizza and
O'Meara
Casa Del Rio. She was a vintage clothing
collector, an avid reader, a history buff, and
trivia expert. Nora was known for her quick wit and excellent
sense of humor. She was just a phone call away for those
who needed a good laugh.
Nora loved the natural beauty of the Columbia River
Gorge and taught her children and grandchildren a special
appreciation for river stones, driftwood and wildflowers. She
always had an art project in the making and saw creative po-
tential in everyday objects. She will be remembered for her
generosity, warmth and intelligence by those who knew her.
Nora is survived by two children, Chad Gayhart and
Mary-Rain O'Meara; her son in-law, Santiago Carmona; two
grandchildren, Sebastian and Matilda Carmona; two sib-
lings, Margie Shafer and Ben Blount; her nieces, Lori Hanna
and Shannon Blount; and many cousins, great-nieces and
nephews.
Nora was preceded in death by her father, Carl Mark
Blount, mother Adeline Blount (Prentice), broth-er,
Carl "Buzz" Mark Blount, and her daughter, Delanie Bea
O'Meara. Nora was one of Jehovah's Witnesses at the con-
gregation in The Dalles. A memorial service was held on
June 5.
Sandra Hammond
Sandra “Sandy” Hammond died peace-
fully at home on May 25, 2021.
Sandy was born April 12, 1942, to Walton
and Edna Lynch in Prineville, Ore. She
followed her lifelong love of music to the
University of Oregon. After graduating,
she moved to The Dalles to teach music
throughout the grade schools. Shortly after
Sandra
arriving, she met her husband Phil; they
Hammond
married April 19, 1969.
She was active in the community through groups at
Calvary Baptist Church, Cascade Singers, P.E.O., Scouting,
Chamber of Commerce and theater productions. She con-
tinued many similar activities when she and Phil moved to
Mesa, Ariz., in 2003 to explore the Southwest together.
She is preceded in death by her parents and sister,
Marilyn. She is survived by her loving husband of 52 years,
Phil; her son Dale (Kari) of Spokane, Wash.; grandchildren
Alexandra, Elliot and Oliver; and her nieces and nephews.
A memorial service led by her former pastor, Jim Bull,
will take place at Calvary Baptist Church in The Dalles on
Saturday, June 12 at 11 am. All are welcome.
In lieu of flowers, please make a gift in her memory to
Whitworth University (Spokane, Wash., 99251) or the charity
of your choice.
Deniese Lemarr
Deniese Lemarr was a lifelong resident of
The Dalles, Ore. She was born Dec. 13, 1952,
and passed away at age 68 on June 1, 2021.
She was preceded in death by her parents
John and Maxine Gale, brothers William
and John, and son Shane Lemarr. She is
survived by son Jerry Lemarr, brother Griff
(Venda) Gale, sister Virginia Hunter, and
granddaughters Harlie and Kilie, and their
mother Amanda.
Deniese was employed in housekeeping
most of her career the last 20-plus years at
Mid Columbia Medical Center.
A celebration of life will be announced at a
later date.

Emerson, 69, died suddenly
of a heart attack in Tepotzlàn,
Morelos, Mexico, on May 15,
