management program
that includes the use of
herbicides, hand pulling,
mechanical methods, and
biological controls is to
be implemented on the
Mt. Hood National Forest
(Clackamas River, ZigZag,
Barlow, and Hood River
Ranger Districts) begin-
ning in May as sites be-
come snow-free, and will
continue through summer
and fall, as conditions per-
mit. All restrictions and
regulations regarding the
use of herbicides will be
followed as stated on the
herbicide label and in the
Record of Decision and Fi-
nal Environmental Impact
Statement for Site-Specific
Invasive Plant Treatments
for Mt. Hood National
Forest and Columbia Riv-
er Gorge National Scenic
Area in Oregon, including
Forest Plan Amendment
#16 (March 2008). Invasive
species scheduled for treat-
ment include knotweed,
hawkweed, knapweed,
herb Robert, shining ge-
ranium, houndstongue,
toadflax, false brome, sul-
phur cinquefoil, Himalayan
blackberry, Scotch broom,
and English ivy. Herbicides
will be applied by state-li-
censed personnel direct-
ly to target weeds using
ground-based equipment
or backpack sprayers. Ap-
plication dates are weath-
er-dependent. Monitoring
and site restoration will be
done as prescribed by the
local forest official.
