M ajor A c c o m p lis h m e n ts : held the kick-off meeting for the seismic retrofit of the fire house;
completed the census preparation documents; received bids for the emergency backup generators for
waste water treatment plant, repaired the fence by the waste water treatment plant; deconstructed
camp on bluff.

4 — o f J u ly . M any thanks to all the folks involved in organizing the celebration. Our own Public W orks
Department did a beautiful job getting the park ready. The Active Club organized all the festivities.
Thanks to the vendors and those who were in the parade and a special thanks to the Sugar Pine for a
generous and delicious feast in partnership with our own Fire and Rescue Department.
W e have received many complaints of fireworks in town aimed dangerously at homes, going off after
10:30pm and of shot guns being discharged. The Council will consider solutions to this problem. W e
are holding a workgroup meeting on August 21 at 7:00pm at the Town Hall.
W a te r a n d S e w e r b ills . W ould residents like the option of paying water and sewer bills with credit
and/or debit cards? The cost of using a card would increase the bill by the am ount charged by the
card company (approximately 3%). W e have done surveys in the past and found little interest, but a
couple people have asked me about it recently. If you would like to pay with credit or debit card,
please let us know.
W ild F ir e s. It promises to be a hot, dry summer. W e have already had one forest fire on Henshaw
Road and a couple grass fires along the Butte Falls road that were human-caused. Please be extremely
careful in the woods and obey all the fire restrictions. If you see a dangerous situation or behavior that
might cause fire, please let us know.
W eyerhaeuser la n d s . W e are exploring the possibility of working with the Trust for Public Lands
and/or becoming an Oregon Solutions program. Either option would provide a broker to help us put
together the grants necessary for the land purchase. Oregon Solutions will be coming here on the 20 th
to discuss the project and tour the land. W e will be m eeting with the Trust in a couple months. W e are
establishing two com mittees one to work with the acquisition of the land and another to develop a
forest management plan. Let us know at Town Hall if you would like to serve.
E le c tio n . Three Council positions (4 -year terms) and the office of M ayor (2-year term) are up for
election in November. You can file for candidacy at Town Hall. You m ust be a registered voter,
resident of the Town of Butte Falls for 6 months prior to taking office, and complete filing forms by
August 20, 2018.
