Police. P olice O fficer Josh S olenberger graduated on M ay ll ,h from the P olice A cadem y in S alem .
R ecorder Lori P axton and I attended th e cerem ony. W e cam e aw ay w ith an understanding o f police
w ork not as a career, but as a real calling to public service. Josh has 16 w eeks o f internship divided
betw een the P hoenix and P ort O rford P olice D epartm ents. H e should be reporting to w ork in B utte Falls
in late A ugust.
Emergency Medical Services. S hane S m ith has com pleted all requirem ents and is up and running as our
First R esponder E m ergency M edical T echnician and C hief M edical officer. If you call 911, S hane w ill be
at your side until M ercy Flights arrives. W e have listed the am bulance fo r auction and are hoping to
acquire a rescue vehicle to double fo r brush fires and m edical assistance.
Weyerhaeuser . A ctive logging along the w est B utte Falls R oad should be finished by m id-June. The
com pany is taking only the overstory and leaving th e m edium and sm all sized trees.
The governor's office R egional S olutions C oordinator A lex C am pbell and I w ill be travelling to S alem on
June 12 to discuss the sale o f W eyerhaeuser land to the to w n o f B utte Falls. W e w a n t to purchase the

Hazard Mitigation Grant. O ur grant w rite r Janice S chultz and I attended a FE M A tra in in g session on the
developm ent o f FE M A H azard M itigation grants. W e are hoping to acquire, through a FE M A grant,
backup generators and o th e r m aterials needed to keep th e w a te r and sew er plants operational in an
em ergency.
Code Enforcement. C ouncilors did a sidew alk review o f residences in tow n and agreed on the 5 th a t
m ost needed clean-up. I sent o u t letters asking residents and ow ners to m eet w ith m e to discuss the
w o rk needed and tim e-fram e fo r com pletion. O nly tw o households did n o t respond and w ill be issued
citations.
Councilors and Budget Committee Members Needed. W e have tw o vacancies on the C ouncil and tw o
vacancies on the B udget C om m ittee. P lease consider serving your com m unity. W e need your insight.
