W ant to m ake a difference in the life o f a child? Y O U can im prove the likelihood that a youngster w ill arrive at school ready to
read and learn, or that an older child w ill becom e a better reader, leading to greater self-esteem and future success. D onate a
children ’ s book that you and your child loved to read (new or gently used) to T he Storytelling G uild ’ s Pass the Book program .
Collection crates will be available throughout the month of January 2016 at all Jackson County Libraries and at the
Tears of Joy puppet show, (see below )
T he Storytelling G uild distributes betw een 5,000 and 10,000 books each year to m ore than 25 agencies w ho w ork w ith children
from new borns to older teens--agencies like K ids U nlim ited, H ead Start, Juvenile D etention, C om m unity H ealth C enters, the
C hildren ’ s A dvocacy C enter, O nT rack, D unn H ouse and others.
T he Storytelling G uild is a group o f volunteers com m itted to serving the com m unity. T hrough its m any program s, it provides
opportunities for children to be exposed to the m agic o f story and the joy o f reading. Pass the Book is one of those program s.
A m ong others is sponsorship of an annual puppet show for children, presented by Portland-based T ears o f Joy puppet troupe in
the C raterian T heater at the C ollier C enter (free to all children and their fam ilies.) Y ou m ay also recognize Storytelling G uild
m em bers as the presenters o f the w eekly W ednesday m orning storytim e for preschoolers at the M edford L ibrary.
Finally, each July, at the annual C hildren ’ s Festival, you and 6,000 to 8,000 other R ogue V alley residents w ander the hill at
B ritt, getting your faces painted, creating handicraft m asterpieces and reveling in debut perform ances of future stars o f stage
and screen. T he 50 th anniversary (2016) o f this m agnificent event, as alw ays, w ill be produced entirely by skilled volunteers
recruited by the Storytelling G uild.
T he Storytelling G uild is an invaluable R ogue V alley resource. D on ’ t pass up this opportunity to support the G uild and it ’ s
varied program s by donating a new or gently used children ’ s book to Pass the Book at the T ears o f Joy puppet show at the C ra-
terian (Sunday, February 21, at 4:00 and 6:30 pm ) or at any Jackson C ounty L ibrary throughout the m onth of January.
