Sports:
Greetings -
The end of our 5th week of competition draws us past the halfway point in the Fall season. It was the busiest week at
home since the season began as we hosted five contests at the High School. Many people are necessary to help host
these events which have many moving parts.
To highlight just a few, Taylor Meyers is a gift to the student athletes in her innovative approach to running a highly
successful concession program. All proceeds directly support athletics, so her durability, vision and trustworthiness is
extremely valuable. As trustworthiness is mentioned, Shana Brown can say she will run the clock two weeks in
advance, and perform perfectly on time without need for confirmation. Kari Carlton, our new Middle School Boys
Basketball coach, will arrive at a moment’s notice to stand for three hours in front of a smokey barbecue helping support
the concession's proceeds. Howard worked the Football gate for an hour and a half, then upon hearing Chase Ellis was
signed up for the Volleyball gate following a very long football game, took his place and worked another hour that
evening, just to give him a rest. And finally, after selling out of important concession items, Sandy Worman drove from
Medford to deliver hot dogs and work the counter to give Taylor a chance to keep volleyball stats.
There are many more who sacrifice their time and energy to support our student athletes. But for lack of space here,
look for a follow-up piece for the list of names and deeds!
As a closing thought, no matter how many home games and matches we have, I still find myself pausing to appreciate
the people of Butte Falls. Our fans cheer the athletes as they win, and support them through losses, staying poised with
integrity, even when bad calls occur, or opposing fans behave inappropriately. It's clear to see the toughness and
perspective that permeates this culture.
Thank you for your support,
Adam Williams
