G reetings! I am very pleased to be serving m y second year as your full-tim e principal at Butte Falls C harter
School. I am a product of this com m unity and I am honored to be part of this exciting tim e for Butte Falls
Schools. W e are ram ping up our Natural Resources theme this year and look forw ard to taking our students
outside on a m ore regular basis. W e have hired 4 new teachers at the secondary school; M r. Joel Nye for
PE/Health, M r. Steve Kern for Science, M rs. Caron N ew m an for Language Arts and M r. Chris M athas for
M anufacturing. O ur new athletic director is Adam W illiam s. At the elem entary school, w e hired a new
instructional assistant, Kayla W hite. Cindy W right is our new Business M anager. W e are also setup to receive an
online and distance learning class for Spanish. W e w ill be hosting a student registration BBQ on August 18 at
5:00 for grades 7-12. Com e m eet the new teachers and register for classes.
O ur goal is to have every student ready for a successful future, w hether it be college or the w ork force. This
m eans that everyone has a job: teachers, coaches, students, and parents.
W e w ant every student to be proud of w here they com e from . O ver the years, countless alum ni have com e
back and you can hear the pride in their voices w hen they relive stories from their school days at Butte Falls. W e
are unique and only w hen students get out into the real w orld do they realize the treasure w e have here. W e
provide m any extra-curricular activities, including sports and academ ic clubs. W e regularly send students to
sports playoffs and this last year, w e sent students to national com petitions in both Speech and FBLA.
Parents, you can help m ake sure that your students are ready for each school day in m any ways.
First, instill
an attitude for learning. O ur m ost successful students are the ones w ho attend school regularly and on tim e. W e
w ill be m aking a big push to increase attendance this year. Secondly, m ake sure your students are adhering to
our dress code. C urrent fashions don't always lend them selves to a good learning environm ent. Lastly, insist on a
hom ew ork tim e and appropriate bedtim e. W ith all the distractions in our w orld, this can be challenging, but the
results w ill pay off.
Technology brings w ith it m any opportunities and issues. W e are currently w orking on balancing our policies
related to the use of personal electronic devices in the classroom . W e expect students to follow our rules as w e
forge our w ay into unknow n territory. Be aw are that if any students are com ing to school w ith their ow n laptop
or a sm art phone, that they m ay be accessing content beyond our control.
I believe it truly takes a village to raise a child. Please read the local newsletter each m onth as it contains
inform ation from the school, too. Parents are invited to our school board meetings on the second M onday of
each m onth and to our site council/charter board meetings on the third M onday of each m onth. Hope to
see you there.
Sincerely, E>U3 ia , ia Z
