It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the society of coaches privileged to wear the National Speech
& Debate Association's Distinguished Service Key. Your achievement of 20 citations reflects an outstanding
commitment to the service of others and betterment of our community. Since 1925, only 349 coaches (out
of tens of thousands) have earned this remarkable honor.
Bruno E. Jacob, the founder of the National Speech & Debate Association, initiated the Distinguished Service
Award in 1925. This award recognizes coaches who unselfishly serve the Association by sponsoring new
chapters, serving as a district or national officer, writing for Rostrum,

hosting and/or managing tournaments,
and speaking or writing about speech and debate education. Additionally, service is one of the tenets of our
Code of Honor. By choosing to devote your talents to others, you demonstrate the spirit of our organization
at its finest.
