From time to time I would like to share with you some of my reflections on the issues facing the Town
Council that may be of particular interest to our residents. As we approach the next fiscal year, budget
issues are up front and center.
We have begun the process of drafting the 2014/2015 budget and are facing the challenge of providing
services and maintaining fiscal responsible government, all while keeping costs within our current
funding means. Friends, it is not an easy task.
Cheers go out to our Chief of Police Chris Hanson who is an undisputed master at stretching the dollar.
In the creation of the new police department office, he has obtained free materials and labor, bartered for
others, and those he has paid for have been at huge discounts. The building is only waiting for some
electrical issues to be resolved and then the remodeling can be finished. Chris will be doing much of the
work on the building himself as a donation to the Town.
Cheers also to our Public Works Officer Chris Bray who is planning a computerization of our equipment
at the water plant that will improve accuracy and speed of monitoring. He reports that the conversion
will cost about $4,000 over a 10 year period.
More cheers to our Treasurer/Budget Officer Linda Stockton. She has the 2014/2015 budget process
already underway and has scheduled the budget hearings a month earlier then usual to give us an extra
month to deal with budgetary concerns. A council work session will also be scheduled to resolve all
•human resource issues - wages and benefits prior to the budget discussions.

The water bottling plant hopes to begin production by May and will have a grand opening at our 4th of
July celebrations. The plant projects that the Town should start accruing funds from the sale of bottled
water before the year’s end. This project has been a long time coming into production. Any additions to
the budget will be most welcome!
On another positive note, we just received a two year grant from the Land Conservation Development
Commission for $1,000.
Finally, our budget is about you and your water, sewer and property taxes. We need your input. There
are 2 openings on the Budget Committee. If you would like to serve, please let City Recorder Lori
Paxton know. Also, please plan to attend the budget hearings on May 7lh and 14"' at 6:30 pm at the
Community Hall.

**These are some special people that deserve recognition.
Breanna Myers for all she does for the school kids. She is always there for them and works
very hard ar making it all happen.
Jan Nicolaus and Susan Cookson for all they do at the Landing and with the kids.
Tom Wright for opening for me every morning and starting the coffee and turning on the
Bill Tucker for always doing "a little something" that I need help with.
Mike Blake and Jeff Gorman for making sure the snow was cleaned off the sidewalk in front
of the Sugar Pine (remember the snow, way back when).
I'm sure there are more, but these are some I've been thinking about lately...
