A Tourist R ailroadinButte Falls?
The town and community of Butte Falls and the Southern Oregon Chapter of the
National Railway Historical Society are teaming up to investigate the possibility of
building a tourist railroad in Butte Falls.
On September 27, 2012 the Southern Oregon Chapter met with a group of citizens
from Butte Falls to propose the idea of building a tourist railroad. The idea was
well received. One of the actions out of this meeting was to put together this sur
vey to get input from a greater number of the residents of Butte Falls and the sur
rounding community.
The initial idea is to build a few miles of this railroad originating the town of Butte
Falls. The railroad would be operated during the tourist season on weekends and
holidays during daylight hours only. The train would be powered by Medco #4 the
W illamette steam locomotive being restored at Railroad Park in Medford. In addi
tion, the Medco 8, a unique diesel switcher and the only diesel Medco owned,
would also be available as back-up power for excursion train service and to oper
ate work trains. ZYXWVUTSRQPONMLKJIHGFEDCBA
