Hello
M y name is Fred Phillips, and I am running for M ayor of Butte Falls and thought it
would be a good idea to share my life experiences with you and let you decide if I am
qualified for this job.
I graduated from the University of Portland in 1960 with a Bachelor of Science degree in
General Engineering. From 1960 to 1980 1 worked for the United States Forest Service,
except for a short period working for the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers in the early
1960 ’ s. I worked on several eastern Oregon National Forests and spent 10 years working
on the Rogue River N. F. over all four ranger districts including Butte Falls.
In December of 1980 I went into business for myself in M edford as Fred Phillips
Engineering. I worked full time in this business until about 2008 and continued to work
on a part time basis since then. I truly enjoy my profession and wish to continue doing it
on a semi-retired basis for as long as I can. M y work as a civil engineer included
designing roads, small bridges, campgrounds, subdivisions, and buildings of all types;
Residential, Commercial and Industrial.
I have also been active in volunteer organizations most of my adult life, which included;
Planning Commissions in M edford, School Boards at Sacred Heart and Saint M ary ’ s, and
Habitat For Humanity/ Rogue Valley. I also spent a few years on the Butte Falls Planning
Commission. I am currently serving on the Butte Falls School District Budget
Committee.
I have five children and eleven grandchildren that I stay in touch with and share holidays
with. I am the oldest of eleven children and our family reunions are sometimes bigger
then some of the small towns I have lived in.
I moved up here from M edford in 2004, and like it, and have no desire to live anywhere
else.
If elected I will do my best to serve this community and will solicit volunteers who may
want a piece of the pie.
